Abstract
Corticosteroid has been widely used in the treatment of various skin diseases. Recently, in view of the numerous complications of topical corticosteroid therapy, a drug has been sought for the treatment of eczema which ¢¥combines the antiinflammatory effect of a steroid with the effectiveness of an antibacterial and antimycotic agent.
Bay n 5820 is composed of dexamethasone acetate (0.04%), clotrimazole (1.0%) and neomycin (0.5%) in an O/W cream base.
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Bay n 5820 in patient with several skin diseases. Ten patients with contact dermatitis, 10 with atopic dermatitis, 10 with seborrheic dermatitis, 10 with tinea pedis or cruris and 10 with impetigo entered this study at the Department of Dermatology, Seoul National University Hospital from Jan. 1981 to July 1981.
All patients were instructed to apply Bay n 5820 on the skin lesion two or three times a day. Every three or four days, the status of the lesion was evaluated clinically, and the results were as follows;
1. Eighty percent of the patients with contact dermatitis, 90% of atopic dermatitis, 80%. of seborrheic dermatitis, 90% of tinea pedis or cruris, and 90% of impetigo reponde d very effectively or moderately effectively.
2. As a whole, 86% ¢¥of the patients responded effectively.
3. During the observation period, we found no systemic or local side effects of Bay in 5820.
